Hatwalk 2006

Milliners Fawns Reid and Rosy Naylor, along with many of Scotland's leading milliners, took part in Hatwalk 2006 designing new collections which were set to unique choreography and performed on the Hatwalk. Fawns designed a set based on the luscious and colourful textures of India and Rosy's set was inspired by the fusing of old and new Russia with a series of communist themed pieces. YOU'VE got to take your hat off to the creative genius behind Hatwalk 2006 - the World Tour, a spectacular collection of specially designed headgear. Celebrity milliner Philip Treacy and fashion legend Zandra Rhodes are patrons of the event, which has grown from a simple showcase to a full-blown charity gala. For the third Hatwalk, each of the participating designers has chosen a country to represent themselves and their creations.

This year's glitzy gala, to be held at the lavishly renovated Mansfield Traquair, in Edinburgh , boasts a celebrity auction with prizes including a Doctor Who script signed by David Tennant, lunch at Le Caprice with Andrew Marr, and the chance to play a corpse in Scottish director Richard Jobson's new film.

Proceeds from the event will be split between two charities: Family Service Units Scotland, which gives support to vulnerable children and families and helps develop skills through mentoring and training opportunities; and the Hatwalk Development Programme, which holds millinery workshops and courses in schools across Scotland .

Rosy Naylor
Rosy Naylor founded her label Hatform in 2003, after originally training in sculpture and conceptual art at Glasgow School of Art. Inspired by her grandmother, who had lots of hats, she was intrigued by these "wearable bits of art", and went on to study millinery at London College of Fashion. Naylor's hand-made hats often feature random surface stitching and vintage button detailing. The petal motif is also a recurring one in her work. She has just returned from a Scottish Arts Council-funded trip to Japan , where she met designers and milliners to establish a collaborative exhibition project between the two countries.

Fawns Reid
As a trained interior designer, Fawns Reid is used to responding to clients' needs. When she started making clothes and hats and selling them at markets, it was the hats that sold best. This led to her opening Fab Hatrix, in Edinburgh 's Grassmarket, which doubles as her workshop. Working mostly with silks, she is inspired by India and, most importantly, her customers.
